Essentially this is shorting out one of the stereo channels to earth,
it isn't a stereo to mono converter (at least the picture in the URL
doesn't look like it) so there are problems to start with. Some
equipment doesn't take kindly to this, so that may be a problem.

This splitter can't send the stereo signals separately, at it is
connected to only one of the stereo channels - AFAIR the tip of a 3.5
mm jack is the left, you are missing the 'ring', which would connect
to the right. (or vice-versa if I've remembered wrong!)
