Default DVD audio

Can you help a newbie?

If I add a cheap dvd player to my (older) system by feeding the video on
scart via my vhs recorder (nicam) (on aux) through to the tv (on scart), and
take the audio from the vhs audio out into my pro-logic hi-fi ...

Will I hear a full dolby pro audio signal (my amp won't do 5.1, its an older
theatre sound system) or just flat stereo.

- I get the full pro logic audio from the vhs player if the tape is so
encoded.

I have 2 + centre + surround + sub speakers.
(Pro logic has the surround driven together)
