Default Repairs to Cambridge Audio D300 CD player ?

My D300 is now unusable, after an a couple of years of getting
uncreasingly fussy. The transport motor spins but has inadequate
torque to get up to speed. Looking at the abyssmal build quality
inside, I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did.

So, what's to do with this thing ? I've always hated it, slightly
influenced by the poor service I had from Richer Sounds (Bristol) when
I bought the whole system. Is it scrap, or is there anywhere that
might think about repairing it for less than the cost of a
replacement?

The display illumination failed shortly after I got it, but I've heard
"they all do that sir"

If it is scrap, what's a suggested replacement ?
