Default Software to split CD

Not sure if this is the right group to ask this question but, if not,
perhaps someone could point me in the right direction. I have a
promotional CD which is mixed so that the whole CD is one long track.
I would love to re-record it so that it is split into individual
tracks so I can easily skip from one track to the other. Anyone know
any software out there that will allow me to do that?

Rip Vinyl will do it (in spite of the name).

Steinberg Clean, Cool Edit (now part of Adobe Audition,) Goldwave. You will
probably have to do it be hand - marking the track ends - but otherwise
straightforward..

Oddly enough, I faced exactly the same problem only yesterday when ripping
Prince's 'Lovesexy' CD which has all 12 songs encoded as a single CD track.
I used Goldwave to manually split the tracks and save as discrete tracks -
dead easy to use and happily handles 320kbps.

Try Googling for Audacity, a GNU audio editor, a bit like Cool Edit.

All the replies so far have suggested using some sort of audio editor,
but if all you want to do is split the tracks, then use CD Wave
(www.cdwave.com): it's a simple program that was specifically built to
do that job, and does it well.

Just had a go with CD Wave. Seems very good, especially where the gap
between tracks is very distinct. Not so hot where tracks crossfade or
include silences - it auto-split Prince's 'Lovesexy' CD into 19 tracks
rather than the 9 that are actually on the CD and missed two genuine track
splits. It was, however, the work of less than 20 minutes to identify the
incorrect splits and remove them. Also allows easy manual splitting of
tracks on the fly where the exact end/start point isn't marked by silence.

It prefers working in WAV format but will happily save to MP3 at any sample
rate up to and including 320kbps as long as one has already sourced the LAME
DLL from elsewhere. Note that it won't support any other MP3 encoder or AAC
format. All in all a neat little tool! :-)

While I'd echo the recommendation for CDWave (and it should take much
less than 20 minutes to split the tracks), I'd also suggest that you
take a look at whatever software you already have. Both Nero and WinOnCD
will split files into separate tracks. They're a little more fiddly than
CDWave though.

Cheers.

James.

Thanks to all who responded to my original question. I'll check out
the suggestions.
