Default vaux astra cass/radio with seperate display

just bought an astra with a multi purpose display just above the radio .
this displays radio channel etc. but also in car temp etc.
also just bought cd radio to fit in the car.
oh dear! (and other words)
1/ can i replace the original radio cassete without disabling the
temperature/clock etc.?

2/ if i can, how do i get the radio out seeing as the correct special tools
don't seem to be unlocking/grabbing the unit.

any gems of helpful (i.e. no mickey taking please) wisdom will be very
gratefully received as both the car and the new cd/radio were a present for
my wife, and she'd be most unpleased if the radio had to go in my old
banger.....

thanks in advance

Any unit should work (standard iso connectors). You will retain the date,
time & temp display - but it will not display the RDS info from the radio/cd
etc. To do this you need to buy a Sony or Kenwood unit & special adaptor.

Also, if it has steering wheel mounted radio controls (as on my vectra)
these won't work unless you get the Sony/Kenwood + adaptor.

removing it : there maybe some small grub screws (you need an allen key)
in the holes, remove these & standard tools (or a bent coat hanger!!_ should
be fine.

That helps a lot thanks MArk, it means it's worth persevering with the
extraction....i've removed the grub screws and had a go with the correct
clips (two makes) but the hidden clips don't seem to be 'unclipping'.

You need to really push them in hard & bend them outwards when you pull the
unit our. If it's never been out it, sometimes it will be a bugger to remove
first time.
