Default Usability of Pioneer DEH-P77MP with iPod adapter

I'm considering connecting an iPod to the DEH-P77MP using the Pioneer ipod
adapter.

Question is - how usable is this setup? If I have, say, 100 or so albums on
the iPod then how do you select what to play using the headunit since it
doesn't have any kind of scrollwheel mechanism. Is it a case of rotating
the jog-dial to go through each album one-by-one to the select one to play?
Or is there any way of being able to use some of the other album criteria
via the headunit, eg. genre, artist etc. Are playlists supported at all?

Just wanted to see if it was worth going down this road before I shell out
the cash for the ipod adapter.

Also, does anyone know what the difference is between the MkI and MkII
adapters?

Thanks,
Pete.
