kef iq5 vs. iq7
E,
I am in the same dilemma myself. KEF iQ5 got significantly better reviews from What-HiFi, compared
to iQ7, though I don't fully agree with them.
I have auditioned iQ5, IQ7 & iQ9. Apart from the bass, IQ9 has a great lower-mid-range. You can
actually hear the person on the flute blowing air in to the hole. The baritones sound great too. The
bass is a bit overwhelming, and needs to be kept under control. The iQ5 is fast in the upper-mid and
has a good treble, but it lacks that detailed organic lower midrange, which its bigger siblings
possess. IQ7 is midway between the other two models.
If I had the money, I would buy iQ7. You need to hear and decide whether you can live with an iQ5
(may be with a sub to help it).
Thanks,
Sharad

Hi,
I'm weighting in different speakers' choices for my Onkyo stereo
amplifier. The KEF iQ range seems reasonable, yet I find a little bit
weird their pricing policy: whereas my dealers ask me around 570 euros
for the iQ7 (each), the price for the iQ5 is 287 euros (each). Is the
upgrade worth that difference (almost twice)? According to different
opinions I heard, the main difference between both series is the amount
of bass, which is obviously greater for the iQ7.
Thanks for the opinions,
E.
