when i start the car it seems like the volume dies and i can just hear a
muffle in a back speaker at full volume

Is it plugged straight into the original ISO connectors?

It's not really something that's easy to diagnose without actually
seeing the car unfortunately. If the unit's just plugged straight into
the car's wiring harness using the original ISO connector on each
side, then it's probably the unit itself that's faulty. Possibly an
internal power supply fault, judging by the fact it cuts out when the
engine's running. Have you tried the unit out of the car, or in
another car? If not, I'd make that the first thing you do, as it'll at
least give you an idea where to start looking.
