Audio, hi-fi and car audio - Hirschmann aerial question/problem

About a year ago I had a Hirschmann electric aerial ( HIT AUTA 5091
A 910 ) fitted in my mark 3 VW Golf connected to a Becker Mexico Pro
head unit.

Over the last few weeks it has displayed a reluctance to retract
after I switch the head unit off although it usually does retract
after a few minutes ( up to 30 minutes later ).

Sometimes it works perfectly but usually only when trying to
demonstrate the fault to my local VW dealer.

I have cleaned the aerial mast to no avail.

Hirschamann have been very good and have just sent a complete new
unit by courier asking only that I return the faulty one.

As my local VW dealer was reluctant to fit a Hirschmann initially
saying the VW OE version was a far better product I feel a bit of a
plonker.

But I have never had a problem with any of the Hirschmann's I have
had prior to this which accounts for my brand loyalty.

Can anyone suggest a possible cause ?

Get it fitted by a car audio specialist. The VW salesman is just that!! I
had an Hirschmann electric aerial on my old cavalier. Must better reception
that anything I've had since.

I remember being able to get Capital Radio clear as a bell down in Brighton.
OK the head unit was a Nakamichi, but there forte was the cassette side of
things.

My current car (Corrado VR6) radio performance is crap. And before anybody
comments, yes the active aerial is working!
