I'm not too worried about it working in Europe. As long as it works in
Britain, I'm happy. are you saying the snoopers dont work at all?!?

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a radar / speed camera detector for my motor.

I've
seen they're quite expensive, but halfords have a Snooper S1 for £99.

I'm
guessing if that's the halfrauds price I can get it cheaper on the

internet.
Does anyone have any advice? what are peoples experiences - particularly
with this model. Do they actually work? I'm dubious you see, and don't

wanna
get stung.

cheers.
James

One fundemental problem with the Snooper is that it only detects Radar.
These days Radar is the least of your troubles! Also from experience with
the more expensive Snooper 815 they go off all the time on anything. It's
more money but a GPS based system is going to offer you much better
protection from all manner of different static cameras. If you visit our
website on www.cel-direct.com there's a whole section on "Speed Detectors"
which also contains a lot of information you may find useful in making your
decision

Hi Nick,

The S1 also detects LASER. or at least that's what the manufacturer

claims.
It doesn't in my experience of using it.

The Bell 990 I have gets about half of them. And all the Gatso's in time to
slow down but not as essential now they're mostly yellow!

Exactly.
If you want to be safe from Laser guns you can walk the legal tightrope with
a Laser jammer (it's for opening my garage door, officer, honest) or stick
to the speed limits. Don't expect to be warned in time to slow down.

For fixed cameras I don't know why people are still bothering with Rader
detectors like the Snooper S1 etc. The GPS driven ones like the Road Angel
or Origin Blue seem a much more sensible idea?

Fair enough but why complicate the matter when detecting laser does little
more than make you aware that a letter's in the post!

If you are going to go down the GPS route, then you may want to consider this.

Get a PDA (Pocket PC), TomTom Navigator, GPS unit, and then POI-Warner. You
could probably get all of that for £400 if you looked hard enough.

TomTom will give you Sat Nav and POI-Warner allows you to download a database of
the Fixed cameras.

I did consider that sort of thing... but in the end went with the Origin
Blue 2. It's got all the GPS stuff, but you can also hook up a radar
detector, laser detector and a laser jammer if you so wish. You can also
output the GPS signal to sat nav software... which will hopefully come in
handy with my incar pc.

Only problem is... the ******* thing doesn't work. DOA so I sent it back and
am yet to receive my replacement :-/
