Hi guys (n gals)

I am looking to buy a Sony CDX-M 850MP, I think it is a model that has the
non removable flip front. The front flips around and darkens out to show
just a black panel in the car.

Does anyone know what sort of security (from theft) this offers?

I know kenwood used to offer (and still do... I think) a scheme with face
offs where if the radio was stolen they would replace the unit as long as
proof of purchase was available, and the face of course. If I remember
correctly they also offered a similar guarantee with the 'Mask' range. Does
anyone know if Sony offer a similar scheme.

Thanks
Stephen

Hi,

I have a 850MP (used to have a Kenwood Mask). I don't know of any
'refund-programs'.

As far as security is concerned. The only security that the 850MP offers is
the 'security code'.
This is a 4-digit code you have to enter when you power the radio on the
first time after the radio has been disconnected from the battery.
Kenwood had the same thing with the 'mask key' which is an infrared code
transmitter.

In both cases, I think this can easily be 'reprogrammed' by radio
thieves....

When these units were first introduced Sony did say they would replace them
after theft as long as you could present the IR remote control to them.
They might still offer this?
