Fitting a Blaupunkt Modena CD53
OK, the new Headunit got delivered today.
Opened the box, and discovered no wiring loom, but what looked like standard ISO sockets on the back. Both the other cheaper HU's I have bought in the last couple of years had ISOs on short wiring looms/harnesses (adding to a bigger bunch of wires behind the dash). I've fitted a Saab loom - ISO adaptor to the car to get the other HUs in before, does this mean that I just need to plug the ISO end of the loom straight into the HU? Cheers guys. -- The poster formerly known as Skodapilot. http://www.bouncing-czechs.com |

However you should have had a ISO plugs to bare ends in the box. All the Blau's I've had did. Tim.. |

Bit disappointed that the tuner isn't as good as either the base model panasonic 113 or the Pro-Plus bargain bucket ones that I had bought previously. The Panasonic would lock onto traffic reports from Preston, Leeds, and Hull, when I was in Manchester. The Blaupunkt seems to have trouble getting a decent lock on the local indy station, and goes into FM search Also the pop front stays illuminated when the power is off. The display blanks, but the buttons stay lit. I know for security you should remove it, but there are some places (like works carpark) that are "Safe", and now I'm as worried about battery drain, as much as theft. Either you have power on the illum wire when you shouldnt, or in the DSC you have the illumination set to "always on". Does your aerial have a built in booster which now for some reason isnt getting power from the Blau?? This would give poor FM reception... Mine is good, although FM lock on some channels isn't as good as I had hoped... Tim.. |

On the Blaupunkt menu didn't see anything about illumination settings, other than a mention in the manual about wiring in illumination to the dash dimmer? The standard Saab way to power the radio is always live, rather than ignition switched. Both of the others I had in both powered down apart from maybe a small light on the PWR or SRC switch to see where to switch back on. The Antenna is a decent automatic powered one. The Antenna remote works fine. And the Antenna raises to it's full extent. -- The poster formerly known as Skodapilot. http://www.bouncing-czechs.com |

DSC- dynamic software control or something like that. Does your set have a DSC button? Inside you'll find many menus for setting up the radio like the display colour, the brightness of the display, the start-up volume, traffic report volume, etc etc etc and one of the options (at least on the London) is whether you want the illumination : 1) On all the time regardless of the igntion or set being on or off. 2) On with the set on and off with the set off and another menu for Whether the illum. wire goes to 12v or 0v when the vehicle dash lights come on if you have selected 2) above. Connecting the illum. wire to a dimmer supplied 0 - 12v supply will cause the set illumination to dim in accordance when you have selected either 1) or 2) above. Hope this helps. Tim.. |

"Tim.." wrote in message ... Ahh. Just looked at the Modena in the catalogue and it doesnt have DSC, so ignore all my wafflings! You will have to arrange for a switched live for the illumination to work properly I think :) Tim.. |

Saabs are notorious for daytime running lights too, so while there is a dash dimmer knob/pot it is probably illuminated on a default lower setting when the headlights are off too. so even using the illumination dimmer wire would only reduce rather than power it. Guess I will have to take the front off all the time. -- The poster formerly known as Skodapilot. http://www.bouncing-czechs.com |
