My first HU questions! (JVC-KDS891R/Kenwood/Sony)
As the oft said saying goes, "Help me uk.rec.audio.car, you're my only
hope!".... I'm currently looking to install my first (!) new HU in my 1993 black golf. It's got black trim with green illumination (this will make sense in a minute!). I am looking to get an MP3 unit (will be through bog standard speakers to start with) and have narrowed it down to the following (being on a tight budget - could stretch to £130): JVC-KDS891R £100 Pioneer DEH-P3500MP £100 Sony CDX-MP40 £120 Kenwood KDCM4524G £130 My main likes would be: 1. Good MP3 playback 2. Proper Random Function for MP3 discs, i.e. whole disc rather than single folder (as I have heard the Kenwood does) 3. ID3 tag support that will scroll more than once (as I've heard the Sony and Kenwood do) Can anyone recommend or provided opinions (or links to reviews - I haven't been able to find any!) on any of these HU's with those in mind? I'm currently leaning towards the JVC or Kenwood, the JVC as it is the cheapest and the Kenwood as it would match the rest of the car (I said it would make sense!) and apparently has very good MP3 playback... TIA I just bought a KDS891R today. Nice simple functionality when browsing through folders, appears to be good for the money. My only gripe is that I cant get a happy medium with the fader level. Its either too much in the front or not enough. I suppose thats what you get when you buy the cheapest... |
