Default stereo on/off with ignition question

I have just bought a '98 Vauxhall Corsa which has the most basic stereo in
it. It does not turn on and off with the ignition. Looking in the manual
only the higher spec ones do this. My question is if I get hold of a second
hand higher spec stereo is it a straight swap or will I have to add or
change the wiring for this this feature to work?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Steve

In any case you will have to do some wiring modification, if you have a
basic understanding of using 12V relays, then I would just adopt a DIY
approach.

Default stereo on/off with ignition question

Thanks for the advice. Is there any particular reason why you would use a
relay rather than wire it straight into the ignition live?

A relay will draw a minimal amount of current from the ignition circuit,
they are cheap enough and only 4 wires to connect, 12V switched from the
ignition, 12V from the battery , a feed to the head unit and chassis.
And is independant of brand on modern cars.

The Car100 & Car200 don't have ignition sensing. However the ignition live

is there in the ISO plug so if you upgrade to a Car300, 400, 600 or Delco
CDR500 then the unit will switch on and off with the keywithout any
alteration to the wiring. If the unit you are fitting is out of a Vectra or
Omega you will have to program the display setting on the radio so that the
remote display in the car works correctly, repost if you need this info

Regards
