Medium Wave problem after changing car radio

Hi folks,
I have a Citroen ZX 1993 with the standard radio/casette fitted. The
tape packed in recently so I replaced it with aanother old Citroen
radio that I bought second hand. After I had connected it up I
realised that Medium Wave stations were now impossible to pick up. All
I can make out is interference apart from when I am in the middle of
the city when I can hear a slightly better reception. Prior to the
change over my medium wave worked fine. I thought it must be the
replacement radio so I out the old one back in. Same problem was now
evident on the old one.
N.B. FM reception is absolutely fine.

Can anyone give me a clue as to what may have caused this ?
I replaced the radio myself by simply unplugging the power and aerial
connections on the back.

Many thanks.
Paul

Medium Wave problem after changing car radio

Check that the centre piece out of the aerial plug is there. (Its the long
thin bit that goes in the hole in the centre, about 1cm long and 2cm dia).
They have a habit of staying in the radio. I have a couple if you need one.
