Default SONY CDX-MP30 head unit line outs died

hi all,
i have a sony cdx-mp30 head unit which i bought new over a year ago.
was working perfectly until i removed the setup in the back of the car
(sub, shelf with 6x9s and 2 amps) to make space briefly(done this countless
times before).
when i put it back in,no sound at all from the back (the fronts are powered
off the head unit, they are fine).
changed the phono lead the other night and had muffled, sort of rustley (like
interferance) sound briefly. the head unit has front and rear phono
outputs, same sound from both. and then nothing.no sound at all now from
back.
have put a meter on the outputs, nothing at all showing.
front speakers powered from head unit still work perfectly.
anyone any ideas ?? has something died in the stereo ??
needless to say, have messed about with all available head unit settings to
no avail.
any help gladly appreciated,
cheers,
col

That sounds like the pre-outs have died in the head unit.
Were there loose cables in the boot that could have shorted on each other?

hi,
that is a possibility.when i removed the stuff, the phono cables were still
connected to the connector block next to the sub,but the power cables may
conceivably have touched (a long shot, but possible none the less)
seems weird that it did actually work when i mucked about with it,but was
muffled. i would have thought it wqould just die and that would be that.
cheers,
