Default Maplin speaker - is it worth ?

Hi,

I have a Rover 218 and I am not quite happy with the soud the stock
speakers play and they can't handle half the power the stock head unit
supplies. I believe the problem is with the speakers. My budget is
quite restricted (£30 - £40 for two front speakers, won't change the
back ones at this moment). Maplins has got a set of speakers (with
builtin tweeters) for around £20. My question is, are these worth
buying, am I going to get better sound from those than my stock rover
speakers ? I am not an audiophile, so I am looking for decent sound,
not the best.

I have owned 2 rovers in the past G reg 414 and R reg 416. I think you might
find the weakest point is the head unit, I changed the head unit in both my
cars and the sound was a lot better. Changed the speakers in the 414 to 2
way kenwoods and didn't think they sounded as good as the originals. I think
if you change the speakers you will be disappointed with the results if you
keep the stock head unit.
