Rear speaker wiring in an Octavia.
Anyone done it? The wires are even missing in the ISO (front speaker
wiring present only). What way did you fit pins into the ISO connector? What interior trim did you need to remove to get it hidden properly? I was thinking about getting one of those fitting kits for converting older cars to ISO, removing the wires for rear speakers and fitting them into the Skoda ISO connector. Am I likley to be able to remove and refit them without damaging them and making them too loose a fit in the plug? Once I have the wire stubs fitted to the car, I plan to run wires and then crimp them onto the stubs on the ISO plug. Do able? the cheap goodmans HU I have doesn't have a subout, so a cheap active sub and better front speakers isn't an option really either. -- Carl Robson Audio stream: http://www.bouncing-czechs.com:8000/samtest Homepage: http://www.bouncing-czechs.com Now Playing at home:Robert Johnson-Honeymoon Blues |

Get a wiring harness adaptor (you only need the speaker plug and socket, the power can pass straight through). Cut the rear speaker wires between plug and socket and attach to some decent quality speaker cable long enough to route to the back of the car, then re-attach. Leave the front speaker wires attached between the plug and socket on the wiring harness. Done this in a friend's Corsa, he didn't have rear speakers but installed some 6x9"s on a stealth shelf. We upgraded it again after so the front speakers were running from an offboard amp (which also powered a 10" sub in the boot). -- Glenn Richards Tel: (01453) 845735 Squirrel Solutions http://www.squirrelsolutions.co.uk/ IT consultancy, hardware and software support, broadband installation |

I like that. As it is VAG Mk4 Golf based I've had to swap the ign/perm live over using the fuse connectors. Lucky... my MkIII A4 doesn't have a switched live feed, only permanent. The factory head unit uses CAN-bus to switch on and off. So I've had to find a 12V switched feed in the fusebox (middle row) and run this to the 12V switched input on the replacement head unit. £26k for a car and the sound system is pants. Not impressed. (The car itself is fantastic, but the stock head unit is bloody awful.) I've fitted a toggle switch in behind the fusebox so I can switch the ignition sense to permanent 12V if needed, that way I can leave the music on without needing the key in the ignition. I could swap them back and fit a VAG adaptor instead and and add the speaker wire tails onto there. Maybe even fit the tails with bullet adaptor so they can be fitted into the speaker wiring once the wiring is run. That way I could solder the tails onto the wires, instead of crimps or scotchblocks but it would still be removable to put the car back to factory. Probably worth doing. The harness adaptors cost around £10-£15, and I don't mind butchering one of those. Actually the one I've got now has been in 4 cars (a MkI A3, a MkII A4 FWD, a MkII A4 Quattro and now a MkIII A4 Quattro). The head unit (Sony MEX-BT5000) was bought new for this car, the previous one (Sony MDX-CA580) was in the first 3 Audis and before that in a MkIII M-reg Fiesta. My A4 doesn't have the Bose system, but then all that does is shows up how bad the factory head unit is. Have had a couple of courtesy cars with the Symphony 6-disc double-DIN changer head unit and Bose speakers... it's better than stock because of the offboard amplification, but still not a patch on a decent aftermarket setup. Sony MEX-BT5000, Connects2 iPod adaptor, JBL GTO-4000 amp, 2x JBL 10" subs. In a brand new 56-plate A4. Couldn't find my VAG removal keys... so the dealer very kindly unclipped the stock head unit before I drove the car away! -- Glenn Richards Tel: (01453) 845735 Squirrel Solutions http://www.squirrelsolutions.co.uk/ IT consultancy, hardware and software support, broadband installation |

TBH, I can't decide wether to fit the rears and upgrade the headunit, fit the rear and install the carPC I've been planning started, putting off then ignoring for about 3-4 cars now, or just change the car. I find the old 8v 2 litre engine noise pretty intrusive, even with the very poor Grundig R/C replaced by a cheap Goodmans MP3CD headunit. Worst on the motorway where cruise speed seems to provide the most rattles, buzzing and engine noise generally. -- Carl Robson Audio stream: http://www.bouncing-czechs.com:8000/samtest Homepage: http://www.bouncing-czechs.com Now Playing at home:Robert Johnson-Honeymoon Blues |

I was lucky enough to have an A3 3.2 Quattro as a courtesy car back in January. It had the 6-disc Symphony system and Bose speaker system. Except I found myself turning the music down every time I accelerated off a roundabout. And holding the lower gears right into the redline. In fact I even found a tunnel and drove through it a few times with the windows down. Yay V6 soundtrack! -- Glenn Richards Tel: (01453) 845735 Squirrel Solutions http://www.squirrelsolutions.co.uk/ IT consultancy, hardware and software support, broadband installation |

I think I might need to get another one. Old car but sounds nice and drives loverly. -- Carl Robson Audio stream: http://www.bouncing-czechs.com:8000/samtest Homepage: http://www.bouncing-czechs.com |
