What to do with a Fiesta MK III?
 

Hi All,

I have a Fiesta Mk III and I've been chopping and changing the audio
components for the last few weeks and I can't seem to get a good
enough sound.

Original configuration: Ford RDS 2005 Head Unit, original Ford Front
Speakers, original Ford Back Speakers.

I replaced the front speakers with some Alpine SXE-1325S (35W RMS,
200W Peak), but I found little significant difference.

I then replaced the front speakers with TheLoudest.Com's TL-1051 (50W
RMS, 175W Peak) and the back speakers with TheLoudest.Com's TL-1041
(45W RMS, 150W Peak). The Ford head unit and these speakers did not
match and sounded awful.

I then replaced the head unit with a JVC KD-LHX551 which is alot
louder but I'm finding the system still sounds unpleasant. It screams
on high frequencies even at low volumes - like a "ringing" in my ears
and it distorts at high volumes.

What shall I do?

I've got a stealth shelf and I'm going to mount some speakers in that
to replace the back ones.

I would like more powerful speakers in the front doors. Could I put
in some 6x9's in the existing holes? Would the plastic container
thing fit on top of them?

I had a MkIII Fiesta as my first car. Here's what I did.

Front: Sony component speakers, 5.25" in the door, tweeter flushed into
the top of the dash (involved making a big hole in the dash but looked
pretty standard once the tweeter was in).

Replace the speaker cable going through the doors - it's rubbish, barely
thicker than bell wire. I used some 105-strand OFC stuff similar to the
Gale cable Richer Sounds sell for 69p/metre. This made a huge difference.

Pack some acoustic wadding into the cavity in the front door (bit of
fibreglass loft insulation will do the job), gets rid of the "boxy"
sound. If you can afford Dynamat as well then so much the better.

Rear: Sony co-ax 5.25", replaced factory speaker cable with 105-strand.

I had a Sony MDX-CA580 MD head unit with CDX-656 CD changer. Even with
the onboard amp this sounded pretty good, I later added a Sony amp to
drive the front channels and bridged into a 10" JBL sub in the boot.
This kind of made the car shake as you went down the road!

Ford speakers are rubbish on cars of that age...
