i store my music on my sony mobile on an m2 card, and have an adapter
for the phone converting the sony connection to a 3.5mm jack.

i currently dont have a car head unit, but the iso connector is ready
for a stereo. i initially thought about buying a head unit with aux
input and connecting the phone to that.

however as i dont want cd or radio, i wondered if there is an option
of just buying some kind of amplifier as thats all i really need to
play music through the car speakers.

can you get an amp that fits in the stereo din bay, with a 3.5mm
input? i might sound stupid but it makes sense that would be all i
need.

Buy one of the Sony head units with Bluetooth. You can then pair the
phone up to it and stream music to the head unit.

You also get Bluetooth hands-free while you're driving.

Got the MEX-BT5000 in my A4 - unfortunately my phone (Nokia 9500)
doesn't support music streaming, but my girlfriend's phone does and it
works pretty well.
