Default DVD A11 too expensive in UK?

The DVD A11 is the European version of the DVD 5900.

Looks a nice unit, but the going price in the US seems to be around $1500 -
$1700.

Here in the UK its being offered for £1690. Admittedly that's about £1438 ex
VAT which looks a little better. But, especially given the current strength
of the £ and Euro, that seems a bit steep to me.

Is this just Denon looking for better margins?

dont forget the +7% import duty + customes clearance charges + shipping
costs inc insurance, cos sal****er or G forces wont do it any good :¬). Plus
VAT on the whole lot!!

In my experience more than £0.75/$1 it isn't worth the trouble

The unit of course is made in Japan. The US isn't its home territory. So why
so much more expensive here?

What makes you think the selling price *anywhere* has any relation to the
actual manufacturing cost?

Most manufacturers like to sell for more than their costs.

But what makes you think that I think the selling price has any relation to
the cost?

I am asking why it costs so much more in the UK than in the USA.

I also get the impression that Denon US gives better service.

Because you seem to think it should be a fixed multiple of the
manufacturing costs (allowing for currency variations) if you choose to
compare prices in one country to another.

I am asking why it costs so much more in the UK than in the USA.

Wages, taxes, volume of sales, cost of warranty claims, profits, property
prices - etc etc. Anything that influences the selling cost.

I also get the impression that Denon US gives better service.

Could well be.
