Wharfedale SFB/3 loudspeakers
Along with some other vintage equipment, I have acquired a pair of these
'speakers and wonder if anyone can tell me something about them. All I know is that they are of 1956 vintage. I haven't really the space at home for them as they're very big and heavy so I wondered if they are of interest to vintage audio collectors. If anyone can point me in the right direction, websites, societies etc. and/or could give me some idea of any value these 'speakers might have, I would be very grateful. Thanks, Gavin. |

If they are the units I am thinking of, SFB = "Sand Filled Baffle". These have an open-backed speaker unit (i.e. no real enclosure) mounted in a sand weighted baffle. At the time they were made they were well regarded. The reason being the absence of the usual 'box' colourations. Sort of a 'poor man's electrostatic' in being an open dipolar speaker. :-) I haven't really the space at home for them as they're very big and heavy so I wondered if they are of interest to vintage audio collectors. Can't help with that, I'm afraid. But I'd love to see photos or any documentation. :-) Slainte, Jim -- Electronics http://www.st-and.ac.uk/~www_pa/Scot...o/electron.htm Audio Misc http://www.st-and.demon.co.uk/AudioMisc/index.html Armstrong Audio http://www.st-and.demon.co.uk/Audio/armstrong.html Barbirolli Soc. http://www.st-and.demon.co.uk/JBSoc/JBSoc.html |
