Thorens TD160 motor replacement?

The correct belt would be handy, too - maybe a tight belt caused this.

Buy a TD-160 on ebay and just have the motor shipped out to you - easy

Now, I've been reading up on belts - in view of this and similiar warnings
on the vinyl asylum - a search on its subject there brings *lots* more -

manual. Hopefully all this will improve relations with my friend after
having had his table in storage here unfixed ("unfixable!") for, um, years!

So far I've found a slightly oversize belt at a local surplus shop here for
the princely sum of NZ$3, which seems as though it will not stress the new
motor, and just stay on, but I'll look into the issue further, since it
seems to have been a problem for several people. This motor had been making
horrible graunching sounds, and I'm convinced now it had come about from
the use of an inappropriately tight generic belt replacement in the past.

According to http://www.turntablebelts.com/thorens.htm the correct TD-160
belt is 20" - a TD-166 19.6" - and there's also a very long thread on the
vinyl asylum with a chap finding his TD-160 running slow until he
eventually tried a 21.4" - originally using 19.6 and 20" belts ...

All in all it's been interesting, and once again I am very grateful to the
reader who offered to search out and send the replacement motor he has
stashed in the attic - even if it takes him a couple of days to find it!:=)
