Hallo folks,

Before I let fly with my inane question, does this group have a FAQ I
can check first?

Get a couple of nice 50mm thick granite pavings as close to the size of

the
stand or speaker bases as you can (or cut to size with an angle grinder

like
I did for my racks - see
http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/keit...but/debut2.jpg for a fairly poor
pic, to get an idea), rub the sharp edges off (with a brick or summat or

the
angle grinder if you have the skill), dust 'em off completely and paint

them
all over with black vinyl* emulsion paint. (Dries in 20 mins if the slabs
are not wet.) Apply 2 coats for that 'lasting finish'.......

snip

is black the optimum colour for the best sound detail?

Absolutely. It absorbs nasty interfering photons.

Quite right!

But he's got a good point - you could paint them any colour you liked! (Do
give 'em a couple of coats though - flash photos I have taken reveal little
pinholes in the paint on my 'Acoustiliths'** because I got all of a fever
and rushed then into place after only one quick coat! :-)

I used black a) without thinking (no imagination) and b) because I've got a
lifetime's supply of black vinyl emulsion paint (2.5 lt) from when I done me
lintels.....

**OK, sodding paving slabs, then....

Nononono... 'Acoustiliths' is the perfect name. You could make a few quid
selling those! ;-)

2 paving slabs, couple o'coats of paint, put em in a fancy box... "£200 the
pair, sir... guranteed to improve the sound quality of any speakers sir..."
