t... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=3070282373 Thanks Alex "Cost over £900 new."????? Depends where he is, I guess, but that seems unlikely. However, I doubt if the bids will exceed £300, so what does it matter? -- Stewart Pinkerton | Music is Art - Audio is Engineering Wanted to buy it stuart? ;-) Wouldn't pay over £350 for one anyway (make sure it's at least D reg) Don't believe any 8000Ss were available with lower serial numbers. IIRC the lettering used on later models corresponded with the lettering reached by earlier models, so as "E" 8000A would have been around at roughly the same time as a "E" 8000S. I don't think there were any "A", "B" or "C" 8000Ss, although open to correction on this. |

Has to be worth £350 of anyone's money, IMHO. Hi-Fi Corner (Edinburgh) Ltd in Glasgow apparently have a used model on sale for £500 currently: http://www.hificorner.co.uk/acatalog...Glasgow_6.html Bleedin' crooks! They cost £650 at launch, and £700 when Audiolab was bought by TAG McLaren. You shouldn't pay more than about £400-450 even at a high street retailer like HFC. Having said that, I *do* keep banging on about how it's one of the finest amplifiers ever made, so perhaps I'm not helping here! :-) -- Stewart Pinkerton | Music is Art - Audio is Engineering |

AFAIR the 8000S was £650 when released and £700 when it was discontinued.
If it was bought new 3 years ago as the description claims, then the shop would have had it for a while after "Audiolab" products were discontinued. I cannot see it being sold for "OVER £900" under any circumstances, let alone these. Therefore it seemed like an error - a typo perhaps - and so I queried it. Nothing against the 8000S BTW - I used to own one, although I'd disagree with the idea that there aren't sweeter sounding amps now, as there was then. Still, it's a tidy piece of kit. Well, that one was sold for £340 tonight, but there's another one available on E-bay. Has to be worth £350 of anyone's money, IMHO. Well worth £350, no doubt. I switched to an AMC CVT3030a when I sold mine - much more fun to listen to in comparison. The 8000s just sounded a little boring and flat in comparison, not to mention a tad "glassy". For a £500 SS integrated my fave would have to be the Alchemist Kraken - my word it's sweet! They fetch stupid prices on Ebay. |

Stewart Pinkerton thinks he actually influences the market with:
Bleedin' crooks! :-) Sure you are. You're driving people away from a fine amplifier with your 'recommendations'. Everyone here knows you don't have a clue about the products you posture about Stewart. Do I need to post your other 'hands-off' recommendations?... Now which Rotel amplifier was that again... Max Christoffersen |
