Amp and speakers for a PC
I'm going to use a PC as the video and audio source in the kitchen.
What are peoples thoughts on a good amplifier/speaker solution? The simplist thing would be to buy a PC speaker set but even the 'expensive' ones look too cheap to be any good - is there anything i've missed? Otherwise I've got a sony stereo amp i could hide away with the PC and drive from the PC's volume control (or get a nice USB volume knob) but i could do with a sub/sat solution to replace the bookshelf speakers i have at present. These all seem to be 5.1 solutions which is overkill for terrrestrial TV and mp3s (i'm not going to be watching dvd movies). A 3.1 solution would be good but then what do i do for an amp? |

Buy an amp, take an audio signal from your soundcard and voila.....i have
split the audio signal frrom the PC 3 ways, i) to t.v (av amp when I get it), ii) PC speaker kit and iii) amp & speakers in the kitchen. I use all Mp3 files for my music and am very happy with most of them.....i have 5882 Mp3 files - 25.54 Gig's worth ;-) Paul. "anthony james" wrote in message om... Leave the PC out of the kitchen, put a TV of some sort in there (TFT in a kitchen cupboard door is a cool trick) and get a Hauppauge MVP. Either use the TV audio or something like a creative 2.1 speaker set or similar (about 30 quid). Then you have a nice user interface, network audio / video, all for about 90 quid for the MVP - in fact put one in every room... |

That's one way of doing it but - i still need to put the pc server somewhere and this is an additional cost - the tft screen *should* give better pictures driven by a pc graphics card than via the MVP though a S-Vid or RGB connection - something like MyHTPC will give a freindly user interface anyway. - i'm not convinced a £30 speaker system will give me the quality of sound i want. I'd happily spend £200 or more on amp and speakers. I can always relocate the PC later and replace it with a 'media player' of some kind. Since it's a network it doesnt really matter where it is. |
