Creating a Telephone-style clip

I have a clip of audio that I want to edit so it sounds like it is being
spoken over the telephone. Any ideas?

Thanks,

For a start, you need steep (18dB per octave ideally) high and low pass
filters to restrict the response from about 300-3000Hz. Additionally
introduce some harmonic distortion. Try driving an analogue amplifier into
clipping before applying the EQ.
