Default Modified B&W 802's

Hi

A friend of mine's ex-husband passed away recently and she has acquired
a system that she wants to get rid of, she says she doesn't have the
room for it.

The system is

Yamaha YP-450 with Rega 100 Cartridge
Arcam Alpha 5 CD Player

Musical Fidelity Pre Amp 3a

Rotel Power Amp RB-870BX
Rotel Power Amp RB-970BX

B&W 802 Speakers

The system is biamped, with one amplifier going to high and midrange,
the other to the bass.

But it's a little bit more complicated than that

The B&W 802's have been modified, there are now three sets of binding
posts on the back of the speakers. Each speaker is wired to an external
box, which has six sets of binding posts, three pairs connected to each
speaker, and two pairs connected to one power amplifer and the last pair
connected to the other amplifier. The boxes contain a bundle of
electronic components - I'm assuming these are the crossovers. These
look like custom made stuff, I can't find any makers marks etc.

Now I've got a rough idea of the value of the Amps and CD etc, but the
speakers are a bit of a mystery, would these sort of modifications
increase or decrease the value of these speakers.

Any Insight / Suggestions as to the value of this system would be
appreciated, it's not up for sale yet, but may be soon

Cheers

My gut feeling is if the mods can not be removed the speakers would be
worth a lot less.

Why anyone would want to mess with the 802's is crazy.

They cost £6000 new seen ex dem and second hand at £3,800 £4,500

Messed about I would only pay £3,000 max

Thanks for the reply, I didn't think they were worth quite that much.
These are original 802's, not any of the later models, so I was
expecting somewhat less

Anyway - thanks for the info - I'll pass it on
