FS: Mission 752s anyone?
I'm auditioning some speakers at the moment including a pair of very nice Mission 752s in black ash. It's on the cards they will be going back to the shop unless anyone here wants them. They are highly sort after and don't turn up every day - be a pity to let them go if anyone wanted them. (I know of at least one person here looking for a bit more bass.....) They are marked up at £299 but could be had for a lot less (£200/220??) due to *my* track record of ****ing money into this particular shop!! (And would have to be collected from mine. - St Neots, Cambs on the A1) Let me know NOW, if you are tempted or forever hold your piece - or they might have gone back (no skin off my nose, either way). (Don't bother to point out the mis-spelling - it was intentional.....;-) |

If it can be trusted now, come and hear these buggers for yourself. You would have to spend a *lot* more money to better them, I reckon! (I believe they were 6 or 7 hundred new....) They feature in the HFW 'World Classics' on a permanent basis described thus: "Cracking Henry Azima-designed floorstanders combined HDA* drive units and metal dome tweeters with surprisingly warm results. Benign load characteristics makes them great for valves." (Also says £495 in 1995...) Black floorstanders mind, but not too bulky. * Whatever TF that is...?? (Off out for a while now.) |

(Don't bother to point out the mis-spelling - it was intentional.....;-) Which one? ;-) Speaking of speakers, I was in the local HMV an hour ago - they were playing what sounds like a remix of one of Duran Duran's tunes, and the sound was awful. If it was any more coloured, it would be like Piccasso on a bad hair day. I had a look at the boxes - they were little wall-mounted thingies with JBL on the front. -- Wally www.artbywally.com www.wally.myby.co.uk/music |

If it was any more coloured, it would be like Piccasso on a bad hair day. I had a look at the boxes - they were little wall-mounted thingies with JBL on the front. The same shop the Missions are from has also got itself stuck with a pair of big £2,800 JBLs - I know they're brand new but I wouldn't give 'em houseroom - dry and weedy things. (Serves 'em right - thought they were on a winner with some poor old geezer they were gradually cleaning out at the time!) The 'fag packets' I'm auditioning are Dynaudios and are cracking good, believe you me! (I can't use bass where they are, I've kicked out one of the nicest speakers with 38 Hz bass I've heard - my Ruark Paladins.) To give you a clue on Dynaudio per se. - they make the most expensive speakers I've ever heard OF - Evidence Masters which, I believe, would go for $104,000 a pair if there was more than 2 pairs of them in the world! (The piano black on them is done by an outfit called Steinway, apparently.......) See this: "over the years, this is where I cut my teeth with the Dynaudio speaker line. Back before they moved to their new location, I had the extreme good fortune to listen (quite frequently I might add) to the Dynaudio Evidence Master speakers, all $105,000 worth of them (the Masters base price is $85,000, want 'em in Steinway Black and you can add just a few more bucks :-) They were in the shop for about a year or so. The owner of MFP decided he wanted a pair for himself. The piano black Evidence's were finished by Steinway (the piano guru's). These were the only pair in existence at the time, in fact, there are only two pairs in the world now. The Masters were driven by none other than the flagship Krell 650Mc's, balanced mono blocks (the 650Mc's have since been replaced with the 750Mx's) and the Krell combination Pre and CD player KPS 25sc. Together, the Krell gear weighed in at slightly over $45,000. The cables were the $31,000 Transparent Opus (carpet cockroaches) and the Opus interconnects. In a word (or few), this was like attaining Nirvana. I could have kacked right there on the spot, without regret and felt that I had experienced everything in life. The sound was like none other that I have ever experienced, or probably ever will again. This wasn't about money. This was about music. In-f***ing-credible is the only way put it (sorry about that :-)" from this page: http://www.tnt-audio.com/casse/dynaudio42_e.html which features another pair of 'fagpacket' Dynaudios' which are rated *very* highly even if they are (strangely) prone to the attraction of dust when sited in close proximity to certain clear plastics..... :-) |

They retailed for £499 throughout their life as HFW says and they were terrific - they had an enormous image, were incredibly easy to drive and went VERY loud if you wanted! Used them on an Incatec (sp?) Claymore then an Audiolab 8000s for a bit and then an AMC valve amp (which was far more fun then the Audiolab, if slightly unruly). The 752 was replaced by the, IMO, inferior 752freedom which had a fattened up bass and softer top end. They inverted the drivers, used a textile tweeter and drilled another hole in the back of the cabinet. They also did away with the sloping cabinet too. If you were local to Manchester or could deliver I'd take 'em for £200-£220 (depending on condition) as I'm just about to move into a new house and will need yet another pair of speakers! |

"just me" wrote I used to have a pair of these. They retailed for £499 throughout their life as HFW says OK, I got my figure from the shop they came from - ought to have bloody known! (But academic anyway - these are a bloody lot of speaker for not much more than the price of a pair of current '5 star cheapo' bookshelf offerings!) and they were terrific - they had an enormous image, were incredibly easy to drive and went VERY loud if you wanted! (Only kidding! - They are actually very tidy indeed, with no scarring or other damage at all, from what I can see.) They also did away with the sloping cabinet too. These slope a bit (but not like in the ****ty picture below)...... Well, as I'm on £0.00 here, you'll forgive me if I say I'm not in a good position to help (other than hold the speakers for anyone who wanted them)! They are actually only available to me at that price on condition that I buy the Dynaudios at considerably more money! (I am looking for 2 pairs of speakers, as it happens.) They are desperate to shift the Dynies - see my earlier post about saddling themselves with speakers they can't sell in here in Turnip Town - only to ****s like me and one other! I'll probably hook 'em up to a nice little Audio Innovations Series 400 (12 wpc EL84 valve amp) I've got tomorrow and see how they go. If they sound as good as I expect them to. I might just hide 'em away for now (or even keep them where they are - see 'em next to the 'Fag Packet' Dynies he http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/keit...wospeakers.jpg ) (I love 'Show N Tell' - I wish more people than just me and Ronnie Mack did it - mebbe it's because I'm a nosey git.....!!!) |
