Connect PC to car radio speakers
Hello,
I have a sony car radio installed in my sailboat, which is connected to audio speakers inside and in the cockpit. I now want to be able to connect my computer to the same speakers, so I can play music from my PC and, even more important, hear the alarm signals of my navigation software on the PC. Both radio and computer are at the navigation table. Since I am not a real technician, can anybody help me in how I should set this up? I was thinking of installing a car amplifier to which I connect both the audio out of the radio and the audio of the PC, but will this do the job? Maybe there's a better solution. Thanks in advance, Ben |

Any suggestion is still welcome, but I think I have found the easiest
solution: a SoundFeeder Computer Music Transmitter http://www.arkon.com/sf.html Completely wireless and no extra equipment to install. Thanks for reading anyway, Ben "news.skynet.be" schreef in bericht ... Hello, I have a sony car radio installed in my sailboat, which is connected to audio speakers inside and in the cockpit. Thanks in advance, Ben Is it the sort of car radio that has a couple of trailing phono sockets on the back for the connection of an external CD? If it is, then there's no problem apart from matching levels. The other alternative is one of those adapters that fit in as a dummy cassette and have a lead for plugging into an external CD (or whatever). I believe these have internal networks to equalise the frequency response when the radio is in 'Cassette' mode so that an external line output can be used. Of course if you want the navigation alarms to break in on top of the radio then that's a more difficult problem. -- Chris Morriss |

This is very interesting! Thx for the Idea Chris. I had not even thought
about having the navigation alarms on top of the audio. Could you explain maybe somewhat more about how you think this can be done? Ben "Owain" schreef in bericht m... Some car radios have a mute trigger for connection to a mobile phone. If the computer can supply a suitable signal (or a small VOX unit can provide a trigger from the audio) that might be an option.
