I'm about to set up a pc based audio system and have a thousand and
one questions. It appears that there's little discussion of this topic on this NG. Can anyone recommend where I should be looking (websites, forums etc). Thanks. |

Can anyone recommend where I should be looking (websites, forums etc). Thanks. three points: 1) silence. The computer should not be full of noisy fans 2) hifi case. Lian-Li do quite a few aluminium pc cases now designed to fit in a standard sized hifi stack and look the part. 3) audiophile soundcard. -- Jim H 3.1415...4999999 and so on... Richard Feynman |

ISTR a recent and lengthy thread about selecting/building PCs specifically for audio use. There have been several threads about this topic over the last year or so, and several people - I'm one of 'em - have built HiFi PCs in various configurations. I have one of the less sophisticated setups, other have fancy networky gubbins. So, as Julian says - ask questions, or Google this group...either will get you some good (maybe!) info... Steve. |

For silencing your computer, I recommend consulting: http://silentpcreview.com/ Another point to consider is your operating system and how it is set up. I use MS Win2k, which is probably not the most multimedia-friendly OS to use, but it works fine if you work at it hard enough. For example, here is one optimizing tutorial: http://www.staudio.de/kb/english/2000xp/ There are others around. The crucial thing is to get your OS to assign a dedicated IRQ to your soundcard. ff123 |
