remasters
"Raymond RUSSELL" wrote in message ... Hello knowledgeable hifi specialists What exactly is a remastered track ? I'm thinking of buying a few CDs of my favourite music from the 60s and 70s (e.g. Cream, Led Zeppelin, etc.) and there seems to be a choice between originals and remastered. What's better ? What's the difference ? In my very limited experience (imvle?!) of remastereds: Jimi Hendrix - funny thing with these - i bought a few and on my old cdp they sounded terrible, but on my recent (marantz KI something) they sound pretty good, complete with all the studio hum and hiss. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were He pretty good I think, and stands up well to my rather tatty vinyl copy. I think they may have done a few remasters, or postneo-remaster, or whatever. Mine is about 1994. But I can't compare them to previous releases on CD, only vinyl, and I'd say they're pretty good. Overall I don't understand the notion of remastered master tapes - is there some sort of oxymoron there? I can only assume it's got something to do with the mix, and I'd like to think they don't 'add emphasis' etc. Mmm - not much help then, over to someone else! Rob |

I'm sure it is but what does it have to do with remasters? Remasters is a CD box set by Led Zeppelin which doesn't sound as good as the original LPs or first generation CD, but it was made from some thirty year old tapes found in a box at the back of a cupboard :-) Roger. |
