Hi chaps. Thanks for the conversation on the headphones, I got the Grado
SR60's in the end.

I have to say I'm not dissapointed. Most of the reviews suggested the
bass on the 60's wasn't as good and on the 80's, but having now heard
the 60's I think I would have been less impressed with the 80's. The
60's definitely have just the right balance for my ears.

I haven't had the opportunity to test any other headphones I must admit,
but I have no hesitation in believing I got the right bit of kit here.

I just got some too and I'm quite impressed but do you not think the top
end is a bit bright?

Yeah I had the SR-60's for a couple of days, agree with being a little bit
bright (and a bit one noted boomy bass). The RS-1's are alot better is this
regard, treble isn't so forward, and bass is more defined.

Well for the budget I had I can't complain really. I usually end up
listening to music from my PC (mp3) these days and the Grado's with a
M-Audio 2496 are a million miles better than the Creative Audigy /
Plantronics rubbish I had before

How are you driving those Grados with that AP2496?

IME the AP2496 is not really designed to drive low impedance headphones like
Grados. It can work, but there might be some audible frequency response
variations due to the impedance curve of the headphones interacting with
relatively high output impedance of the AP2496. I'm not saying that the
output impedance of the AP2496 is high for a quality audio interface, I'm
saying its high for a headphone amplifier.

No such issues here, I find them quite clear and precise at all
frequencies - very much in keeping with most of the pro and user reviews
I found on the net.

Mine are driven by a Yamaha surround amp, and fed by a LG DVD player.
They certainly compare favourably to the JPW Sonata speakers I have,
indeed I prefer the Grados as I can listen at a more exciting volume.
