Eltax Symphony 6.3

I'm looking for advice as I've seen a new pair of Eltax Symphony 6.3
for £40 which struck me as being a bargain, but I thought I'd post a
message on here to see what the experts have to say! Anyone heard/own a
pair of these? They can't be that bad for £40 can they?!

Maplins is not a hi-fi shop. This could be a guide.

Despite appearances, it is still legal to put sugar on cornflakes.
Strawberries are purely optional.

I've no idea about the speakers, but it does cross my mind that you could
make a pair of TQWP's for about the same amount of money and have the most
tremendous fun making them not to mention reading about them in the DIY
forums and discussing them with the other friendly subscribers.

You'd get far more than your forty quids worth :-)

If you've a mind to have a go try here to begin with;

Maplins is not a hi-fi shop. This could be a guide.

But Maplin could sell you enough components to make an excellent
hi-fi, apart from the speakers.

Quite so Eiron, perhaps this might give you start;

Few components very easy to make.

Do you have shares in them, given it seems to be your answer to every post?
FWIW, not everyone is capable or interested in making things, and some may
also not want tacky looking home made speakers in their living room.

Shares Dave, in freely available information? And from very friendly and
receptive people, who will not only give encouraging information about
cabinets but also the finish and how to achieve it.

Why not have a go yourself, you may find it really enjoyable, the
satisfaction gained far outweighs the act of merely purchasing.

Giving information is not the same as actually doing it, and most home
made speakers look just that.

Why not have a go yourself, you may find it really enjoyable, the
satisfaction gained far outweighs the act of merely purchasing.

Single unit speakers aren't any good. Why do you think no decent
manufacturer uses them?

A pair of speakers for £40 can only be a bad buy if they are totally
rubbish.

I keep seeing Eltax in the likes of Richer Sound's online catalogue.

Is anyone familiar with the company. Are they any good ?
