Problem: My old Rel Stadium doesn't have a high pass filter, in fact it
has no outputs at all only one XLR input.

Anthony Gallo nucleus micro manual says "If you use a non-Anthony Gallo
sub-woofer that does not have a high pass crossover, then you will need
to use a passive high pass filter."

What sort of filter should I look for or are there other solutions to
the problem?

Shouldn't be a problem if you use a AV amp- set the Gallo's to small 120hz,
subwoofer to 120hz. Connect Micro's to AV amp, subwoofer to AV amp.

If you have a stereo system a bit more trickier...perhaps line level
crossover between the pre and power sections?

You could always get rid of the Micros, and get "real" speakers with better
bass frequency response and their own crossovers, removing the need to go
through a subwoofer crossover filter. Just go direct, and dial in the
subwoofer to slightly above/same/below speaker specifications, and adjust
gain as desired. For music sending full-range to standmounts is no problem.

The Rel Stadium is a great subwoofer, so you don't want to get rid of that.
How do you find the filter on it though? I have a Rel Storm and it lets
through much much higher frequency than it should do (ie setting to 40hz and
you can hear upper midrange/low treble from the cone) You could always
remove the amp panel, remove the speaker cable from the amp panel. Build a
new faceplate with just speaker terminals to fit over the hole. Buy a new
high quality amp panel with in/out crossover filter that's does filtering
properly. Put the amp panel someone on your racking, affix the speaker
outputs from the amp panel to your DIY sub panel.

The 'whole story':- The room in question is a 50 sq m
kitchen/conservatory and SWMBO is very keen to have invisible hi-fi. I
started off with two ceiling mounter Sonance Speakers which are fine but
lacked bass. Then I bought an early Stadium off ebay which really does
the job. The problem is that the conservatory end of the room is too
far away from the Sonances and so I was thinking of supplimenting them
with two "Small as Possible" speakers. The don't need any bass response
as the REL has plenty to go round.

SWMBO has approved the Gallos - hence my original question.

I agree with you about the REL - I can hear frequencies that are way
above what I expected but find the integration more gemtle if I keep the
cutoff frequency fairly high and the gain lower.

The hardware is all in a cupboard with Xantech remote repeaters so
appearance isn't too important.

Hopefully a modern sub panel should have a better filter than the one
included in the Stadium. Rel admitted their early panels were very leaky,
and they gave me a quote for a Rel Storm panel at £400+ vat. yeah right!

The Stadium is ported? You could look for a model with sub sonic filter
(removes frequencies below tune) If you can find out what the Rel's true
porting is, set the ss filter to that. It'll cut down porting/chuffing from
the port (if you currently notice that)

That box is still useful for other passive subs too.

Digital switch version has phono input/output jacks so should do output
filtering (remove LF) contact BK for more info.

I've been thinking about doing the same for my Rel Storm, since that's the
Rel is my "music" sub and it needs a clean filter (which it doesn't have)
and it's quite annoying with the HF leaking through. At least it's not too
expensive, and I can get a aluminium "fake" backplate done FOC by my brother
(metal workshop) :-)

You won't damage the original Rel sub panel, just remove it and store it
away.

No problem with amp sub panel then. :-)

AFAIK Richer Sounds are the sole distributor of Paradigm.

Work out which version you'll need, depending on your setup.

X-20 is speaker level
X-30 is line level
