MP3 Download Sources?

I'm new to digital music and want to know where I can
download/purchase legitimate digital music from the web.

I've heard about Napster - but what other web sites can provide
authentic original tracks for purchase?

Apple's iTunes Store is about the best one out there and, of course, it's
fully integrated into the iTunes software.

It will all run on Wintel systems...

Also, it's a rip-off:

Suggest you continue buying CDs, at least you can retain control of
the music you paid for.

Well, personally I use www.allofmp3.com but that's legal only in Russia and
the OP asked about 'legitimate' purchases although I see nothing wrong with
iTunes Store.

www.allofmp3.com offer all popular formats (inc FLAC, WAV, AAC) at all
bitrates (up to 320 Mp3). Typical cost for an album is around 1-2 USD
