KEF Eggs v JBL Control 1s
I'm coming under some pressure to replace my 6.1 system, comprising 6 JBL
Control 1A's and a (first version of) REL Strata sub, with the KEF 2005.2 - purely on aesthetic grounds (the KEF's are smaller and prettier and the wall brackets are neater!). The system is currently driven by a Yamaha RX-V540RDS, shortly to be replaced with the RX-1400RDS. The room is approximately 5 by 3 meters. I would be interested in hearing any opinions on which speaker system would be considered to produce the best sound in those conditions! Many thanks. Welly. I forgot to say that the main sources are DVD, SACD and DVD Audio discs.
Music: popular classics (Beethoven, Tchaikovsky etc), Rock (Pink Floyd, Queen, Clapton, etc) - Movies: All! Welly. |

I would look at slightly larger speakers instead of limiting yourself to small satellite, music playback requires speakers with a bit more low-end..sure you can divert upper bass to sub, but that means sub is reproducing higher..along with any negatives with doing so. The JBL's will be "different" to the Eggs, but not like you're upgrading from Bose to JM Lab Electra range ;-) Stand your ground and buy these! :-) http://www.jblpro.com/cinema/SA.htm |

Very nice looking with good performance Monitor Audio Radius Range. Look very similar to the Castle, but have more options. Check out the websites for more info |

Hi Welly
I would personally in your position check out the Canton CD1's they are much better than the Kef's; they provide greater depth and detail as well and only a little bit bigger. They are full range input units ie no external filters so you can keep the sub. and hopefully the misses happy. Im probably going to get flamed for this (not suggesting walls of speakers everywhere, stick to your guns old chap etc, etc...) But I found the compromise 5 small sliver units on the wall that plays classical, rock, and movies well, liveable. - only downside the sub could be a lot better. Chris. "Welly" wrote in message ...
