Soon after I turned 40 the eyesight started to go. Now, since turning
50

I
have noteiced that one ear has better HF response than the other. Today
I
was calibrating the replay side of a tape recorder using a test tape. I
could hear the 10KHz tone but when the 12.5KHz tone came up I couldn't

hear
a thing! Me ears are shot to pieces.

Have you been to the doc? It might be wax. I've suffered on and off over
the years and a good syringing brings back the HF.

Roy.

Drop[ off in HF response is normally an indicator of noise induced
hearing loss.
A recent report by The Technion suggests Vitamin E can actually reverse
some types of hearing loss.
Look up "Vitamin E hearing loss" on Search engine

THanks, I will.

I can assure you that after many bouts of wax build up, predominantly in one
ear, it is HF that suffers.

Roy.

Absolutely.

I'd also point out that modern techniques for wax removal are far less
intrusive than older ones. One method involves high frequency sound to
break down the wax and pretty well no discomfort.
My local surgery employs this techinique on the premises - carried out by
the nurse. Certainly the first thing to check.

I had a stroke in August this damaged the nerv3e receeptors in my
brain &causes me to incorrectly recognise misidentify and ignore
sights, sound touch and so on.. i.e. an extremely convicing & startling
burst of heavy machin gun fire in the back garden turned out to be
creaking floorboardsup stairs. someone talking in the empty kitchen
is the kettle coming to the boil.

Its interesting observing your mind go wrong from the inside.

Wow. I suppose as you have little choice in the matter you might as well be
interested as afraid. Brave man.

Sometimes its both. The point which I failed to bring out in my post
was that This incident brought home to me just how subjective the
whole hearing experience really is

No that came out OK, I was just overawed by your calm acceptance of it.
