Question - how do you killfile posters?
Can somebody with the right technical knowledge please tell me how to set my ng
settings so I don't see posts from specific named posters? I'm on AOL. I can supply any other techncal information needed to answer this question. Many thanks for all assistance. Question - how do you killfile posters?
Further to the above post - I have found a section which includes
'Preferences'. there's an "Author is" button and "domain is" button. Do I enter the email address given by the poster under "Author is" or what exactly? As you can see I haven't done this on newsgroups before. Thanks for any assistance, Andy === Andy Evans === Visit our Website:- http://www.artsandmedia.com Audio, music and health pages and interesting links. |

Since you like old technology, an Acorn computer running RISC OS is ideal for this sort of use. And Pluto, that is my news/mail programme is simplicity itself to use for this sort of thing. It has crosses alongside both subject and author - click on either or both and they're killed. Gives you the option of how long for too. Incidentally, I read quite a few groups, on various subjects and not just UK ones. And have only found it necessary to killfile one person. On this group. Sad. -- *Real women don't have hot flashes, they have power surges. Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

I've entered the names I want to killfile under 'author' but it's not working
yet - does anybody specifically know AOL for this? Andy === Andy Evans === Visit our Website:- http://www.artsandmedia.com Audio, music and health pages and interesting links. |

Question - how do you killfile posters?
I just spoke to AOL help - seems like AOL only filters IN posters, not out.
Hopeless. Any ideas for a better newsgroup browser? - Dave Plowman was talking about something - if he could explain how to set it up? Andy === Andy Evans === Visit our Website:- http://www.artsandmedia.com Audio, music and health pages and interesting links. |

Andy, go to http://www.forteinc.com/main/homepage.php and download yourself a copy of Free Agent. That has all the filters and killfiles you could wish for. It also displays threads coherently, which the AOL reader doesn't Then find yourself another news provider. When my ISP is giving bad service I use news.individual.net as I suspect do many here. It carries no binaries. As for killfiles, I almost don't use them. And when I do I don't leave the person in for very long. You can't prevent their posts getting through as quotes in other posts anyway, so it really isn't worth the bother. d Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |

I'd *guess* you need the email address they post under. Is there a reason you use AOL? Your posts stand out on here as being rather difficult to read in context due to the lack of conventional format. -- *He who laughs last, thinks slowest. Is there a reason you use AOL? Your posts stand out on here as being
rather difficult to read in context due to the lack of conventional format. I guess I just signed up because £19.99 was a good rate a year ago. If I shift, I'm stuck with all my addresses in AOL format, so I have to negotiate salvaging all those. Bit complicated. I do get a lot of criticism for using AOL - probably the same stuff you are referring to - posts come out irregularly. In their favour they have good firewalls, and I get almost no spam and - touch wood - no viruses so far. === Andy Evans === Visit our Website:- http://www.artsandmedia.com Audio, music and health pages and interesting links. |

I rediscovered the Wondrous Joy Of Binning a couple of nights back and there's a couple in there already (*no* prizes for guessing :-). This morning's 'pink tide of brown stuff' had me reaching for the lever again, but I'll stay the hand until I've had a look at some of it - although not expecting anything of much interest, needless to say..... The great thing with OE is that it scrapes all the crap off your machine if you do finally get fed up with someone. The poor standard of snipping, as you say, will give you enough to throw the odd rock at, if the urge takes you. (On that subject, do I spy that the Pink Prat has started snipping again after I named him yesterday???) |

Andy Simple... 1) Get rid of AOL 2) Choose any number of competent, standard ISPs who allow you to use any software to access any of their services. 3) Download Forte's Free Agent. Better yet, drop your PC into the nearest wheelie bin/river/skip and 'get a life'...... |

Certainly true if one spends much time on RAO or URA. However, its about as true with any other news reader when used with similar parameters. |

I recently changed to Pipex broadband. It can be easily configured with any of the common browsers - but also has the advantage that you can do this with any browser, if you know what you're doing. And I don't, but managed. I also registered my own domain for e-mail. Costs pennies. Hence virtually no spam - perhaps one a week. -- *There are two sides to every divorce: Yours and **** head's* Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |
