Its been asked if you leave a cd player on pause for a long time, will you
damage the disk?

The manual which came with one CD player I owned (I forget which one)
cautioned against leaving the player on pause for too long, however
the warning I believe concerned a possibility of damaging the player,
rather than the disc (I also forget the specifics now).

**Correct, though the damage is merely wear on the disk motor, as the laser
is almost always switched off, when in pause.

Some guy told me a CD sounded better if you put the machine first on pause,

I've got three Opera Houses. You haven't got a nice bridge, now, have you?

**Sure do. I think you get the idea about putting a player into pause
though.

Only if it gets too hot.

I left a CD-R in a powered up computer for a few months and the top
layer started to peel off, making the disc unreadable. The disc was
reasonably warm to the touch, possibly 40 degrees C.

Pressed CD's should be more robust.

Cheers.

James.
