OK.

There are one or two here to whom I've recommended a *certain* valve amp
designer/parts supplier. Well, after reeling out enough rope to hang even
someone with the head the size of a planet (where TF did that come from....?
;-) I've got to say I hereby retract my recommendations.

The person in question (no names, no pack drill - those involved will know
*exactly* who I mean) is a nice enough geezer and certainly knows his stuff,
but he's so damned unreliable even Job got fed up and went to Angela's! One
poor little sod I recommended to him got jacked around for 6 months by
well-meaning favours (and BS) which ended up nowhere and he had to spend
unbudgetted funds to buy his way out of a 'going nowhere' situation! (Not
good.)

I think part of the guy's problem is that, in his case, 'out of puff' has
got bugger-all to do with running up a flight of stairs.....

;-)

Well, I know Keith has had problems, and has more experence of this than
me, but I find that "he" is fine if you use "him" for getting
components, I suspect its the more involving things that he offers to do
(to be helpful) that don't happen, as I suspect "he" offers more than
"he" can do.

I spent about a hour last night chatting about all sorts of things,
started with valves, ended up talking about guitarists. Nice chat, but
maybe not what he should be doing when there are orders to fill. I don't
know. I ended up ordering 8 resistors for all that, which "he" didn't
bothe charging me for. But then again last time, the bill was £130, so
it comes around.

I just know, I will use "him" whenever I can, just because of "his"
know-how and interest.

Whne I used to buy the odd components from Audio Note, the feeling was
that they didn't want to be doing that, and that as a lowly diy'er you
didn't understand what they were doing (turns out to be partly true as
they stopped selling parts, and sold the franchise on, and that involves
another interesting fact about AN and the way they deal, but that will
have to be off line for legal reasons :-)).

He's a very nice chap and is good fun to natter to, but he just don't come
up with the goods on time (many broken *promises* now) and communications
can be a nightmare, due to his odd hours.

I'm not saying 'don't use him' - I'm just withdrawing my previous
recommendations and more or less saying 'find out for yourselves'.....
