Meridian M3 problem
I have a pair of Meridian M3's that have given good service for many years
however I have lost treble on one speaker, swapping leads outputs etc. does not move the problem so it has to be the speaker. Now apparently if I want Boothroyd Stuart to look at them I have to go through an approved outlet, I think this means the cost is going to be prohibative, and frankly no matter how much I like them I am not inclined to throw lots of money at them, but I dont want to change them either! So to my question: Can anyone reccomend a person who can inspect and repair the speakers? or has anyone had experiance with such an issue? I live in North Bedfordshire. TIA. -- /d |

Now apparently if I want Boothroyd Stuart to look at them I have to go through an approved outlet, FWIW When I wanted some minor service work done on my Meridian CD transport I simply phoned Meridian, and then posted the item directly to them for service. Their charges seemed quite reasonable to me, and they returned the units promptly. Do they not do the same for their speakers? I think this means the cost is going to be prohibative, and frankly no matter how much I like them I am not inclined to throw lots of money at them, but I dont want to change them either! No idea who the recommend, I'm afraid. However I am puzzled that although you like the speakers you assume in advance that the cost will be "prohibative" and "lots of money". I'd suspect that the problem with units like these is that the repairer will have to have the necessary skills and *specific* knowledge, and probably the *specific* parts. Given this, and I wanted to keep using the speakers, I'd probably deal with it via Meridian. I did contact BS a while ago however they told me they would not deal directly with me, and that I would have to go through a stockist, this was Seven Oaks, who were very 'off' about such an old pair of speakers, would/could not give me a price and were generally dismissive so I gave up. I think this means the cost is going to be prohibative, and frankly no matter how much I like them I am not inclined to throw lots of money at them, but I dont want to change them either! Given this, and I wanted to keep using the speakers, I'd probably deal with it via Meridian. The speakers are part of a system that has given many years of good service, I did invest in a 506 CD Player but the tone has never really lived up to my Linn LP12 and vinyl (it is fair to say I do have a nice arm and cartridge) The reason I am reluctant to throw money at them is the speakers are probably only worth GBP50 these days and new active speakers are expensive, the other option is to bin my pre-amp and buy a new system, however vinyl does not seem to sound so good on new systems, and 'if it aint broke dont fix it!' this exludes the errant tweeter! Now the good news is I have just wsapped the tweeters over and moved the problem, so all I need is a pair of Audax HD 13 34's and the job is done. Are such beasts available in this day and age? -- /d |

Well done, pleased you can stick with what you like. The audax site seems to indicate "TW 034 X0 - up to 4 mm larger equal installation hole" (google translation!)is the relacement: http://www.audax-speaker.de/vergl.htm http://www.audax-speaker.de/products/audax/c034x0.htm and this place seems to sell them http://www.iplacoustics.co.uk/AUDAX%...TER_units_.htm (on the loose assumption I've identified your unit correctly) Rob |

I bought two of those tweeters from Maplins in Nottingham about 3 months ago (at a very much reduced price), but they have no more left! Have search on the net, you may well find a pair, but it may be at a price! -- Chris Morriss |

I did contact BS a while ago however they told me they would not deal directly with me, and that I would have to go through a stockist, OK. Shame. I am dissapointed/puzzled as they seemed quite happy to service the 200 Transport when I contacted them, and were very helpful this was Seven Oaks, who were very 'off' about such an old pair of speakers, would/could not give me a price and were generally dismissive so I gave up. Alas, some dealers would prefer to sell you new kit. Indeed, I suspect some have no real service ability at all, and would farm this out anyway. In this case maybe to Meridian, but perhaps to someone else.
