Ditton 44's Should I bin them?
Hello,
I've decided to sell my Ditton 44's. Anyway just took the covers off one to find this: www.benjennings.plus.com/uac/DSC00111.JPG www.benjennings.plus.com/uac/DSC00113.JPG all the foam has disintergrated, and there was a small pin in the mid speaker!!!!! So anyone, are these worth anything to anyone? Before I remove the speakers and use em for something else? Cheers ben |

The glue on the surround is not a problem but it's not obvious what the discoloration is on the woofer. The cabs would make half decent subs for an HT system with a bit of internal bracing and bituminous damping. -- Eiron. |

There appears to have used to have been a layer of foam on the main driver at the bottom, which has totally disintergrated!!! |

On my now retired Ditton 25s (1978 vintage) it was the foam which padded out the fabric grille (i.e. between the fabric and the cut-out board with the velcro pads) which disintegrated into brownish fragments and dust. It looked very much like the fragments and residues in your photos. Even at 25 years old the driver cones were in visually pristine condition. -- John Phillips |

There was one piece of foam circular in shape which fell down when I removed the front cover. It just appeared to me as though the driver had this foam on the actual driver itself!! Thanks again Ben J |

So anyone, are these worth anything to anyone? Before I remove the speakers and use em for something else? I see none of the usual flaws in speakers due to advanced age. There is that funny odd piece of foam that seems to be stuck to part of the woofer cone, but it will probably peel off. There must have been some foam on the back of the grille cloth, or some such. Here's the most important question - how do they sound? |
