Rotel RCD-02 not playing CDs

Hi all,

Does anyone have a Rotel RCD-02? Mine is new, and won't play any CD which
is even slightly marked. Any other player in the house plays these disks
no problems. I tried burning one of these disks to a pristine blank, but
the player won't even recognise that disk.

Are these players stupidly, unusably fussy, or does this suggest mine is
faulty?

Either way, back to the shop I guess...

Oh, and by the way, coupled with the Rotel RA-03 and a pair of Quad 12L,
this player sounds fantastic! Recommended, if only it would work for any
disk...

TIA,
Graeme

**They're not overly fussy players. Their laser is a standard type.

**Just tell them that it won't play a bunch of your slightly scratched CDs.
Don't bother complaining that it won't play burned disks, UNLESS the
instruction manual specifically states that the machine will play them.

Thanks, I was pretty sure that was the case. I'm not 100% sure, but I
think it's getting worse as it burns in. It won't play disks that it
did play a couple of days ago. It has also started distorting badly
when it does manage to play some tracks.

Either way, back to the shop I guess...

The manual doesn't mention it, but when auditioning in the listening
room at the shop, the demo unit played a load of CDRs no problem.

Will do. I'm a bit disapointed. This is my first venture out from the
world of all-in-one high street audio tat. I know I'm at the entry
level end of the world of hi-fi, but I've had tens of cheapo cd/dvd
players in my time and not one has ever skipped, distorted or failed to
read a disk. Ever. As soon as I dig deep and spend a few bucks, I get
a dud! Typical... :)

Cheers,
Graeme

I have a Rotel RCD-02. It plays anything I throw at it including CDR's burnt
from PC's.

My set up includes a Rotel RA 02 matching amp and Quad 11L speakers. A
really great sound that impresses everyone that listens to it.

Thanks, thought so. I'll call the shop today to make sure they have a
replacement standing by for the weekend.

Sounds like our systems are very similar, so I know how great yours is.
The RA-02 and RA-03 sounded exactly the same to me, only the volume
doesn't get turned up so far on the RA-03. I only bought the RA-03 over
the RA-02 because it was in stock. :)

Oh, and the RA-02 rating of 40W seemed very conservative to me - that
amp has a lot more grunt than the figures suggest, methinks.

You definitely have a duff unit. The kids stick their CD's in which are
covered in finger prints with no trouble.

When I am alone I like to whack up the volume but with the Quads blasting I
rarely get to turn the volume control above one third without fear of
damaging my eardrums!
