Default NHS Stapes surgery in the UK - any experience ? Good / bad ? audio wise

I suffer from otosclerosis, really need a hearing aid in both ears, and do
wear a hearing aid in my worse ear.

I've started taking more interest in audio recently, making binaural stereo
recordings to MiniDisc, and am wondering what experiences people may have
had with this delicate operation. I've searched the medical pages, but
haven't found any write-ups by the patients! Plenty of "dB improvements"
hinted at, but nothing to indicate whether the risks are worth taking - such
as total hearing loss, dizziness, taste loss & facial muscle tone problems
etc.
TIA
