Hello,
I have condensed my CDs and LPs into WMA on an external USB2.0 Harddisc and now I'm searching for a less than 200 EURO solution to connect to my amplifier. I was googling some fanless mini itx mainboards but since I hace bad experiences when connecting my old vaio SR11 via the earphone jack to the amplifier I'm asking you: what audio chip should I look for? some examples VIA EPIA 5000 AC97 VIA EPIA MII10000 Nehemiah C3 Processor Audio 5.1 VIA EPIA TC 6000E UniChrome VIA EPIA ML8000 6 channel sound VIA Vinyl Six Trac 6 channel AC97 Commell LV-650P AMD Geode Processor many thanks best regards G.fried |

what audio chip should I look for? None, get a usb-audio interface, they start cheap (creative) and go to pro stuff (digidesign, m-audio, motu) so plenty of choice. Or get one with a digital out and an outboard DAC. thanks for the advise in between I was busy searching. because maybe the multimedia OS or the fanless CPU system does not support the USB audio interface. I wonder if this digital out + outboard DAC would save me money because I'm saving some Euro on the board/audio interface and invest in a new digital amplifier - unfortunately my two old sony amps live forever... bud coming back to the research. The via VT1617a seems to be the best choice http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/audio/codecs/ (others are the alc250 or alc203 http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/p....aspx?lineid=5) board http://www.logicpd.com/eps/sbc/amd/geode_nx/ is much to expensive compared to the via epia... Unfortuntaly the SP board is 160 EURO more expensive than the cheapest via epia 5000 http://www.viaembedded.com/product/e...herboardId=261 so maybe the abit usb theater ua10 will be given a try - its only 55 euro. g.fried |

I'm using a basic laptop/wireless card connected to a Creative NX USB. Buying new this would be way over your budget (700 euros perhaps) but it does have a few advantages: *Advanced editing (if you want to record, especially analogue); *Decent screen to use software (winamp etc); *Laptop you can use for other stuff; *Superb sound *wireless lets you tap in to a pc or mac, and music stored there (you could use the external drive instead). *etc ... The main disadvantages are that the fan does cut in from time to time, very bad interference when it's plugged in, and the trail of wires. Alternatively: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/digitalmusic...9184812,00.htm All in all, I haven't seen anything that does what I want, but I find the laptop route comes close. Rob |

I built a fanless VIA EPIA machine for a mates mercedes, we used a Terratec USB audio interface and it's brilliant. OS is Windows XP. -- "Excuse me, would you mind not farting while I'm saving the world?" "Would you rather silent but deadly?" |

I have a Netgear MP101, which connects to my computer via Ethernet (wired or wireless.), and lets me play music from the computer (which is in another room) on my sound system. Mine sounds OK to me. The Netgear is available for about £80-£100; there are other similar products on the market, including the Squeezebox 2 from Slim devices - who were I believe first to market kind of product -and the Philips Streamium, which costs quite a bit more but does video too..
