Default Help! - Wiring Phono Leads to Rega

Hi Group,

I've made a bit of a mistake and wondered if anyone had any good
advice. I have just took my Rega Planar 3 turntable out to use (I have
recently moved) and found that one of the Phono leads had a dodgy
connection (I had to wiggle it around a lot to make a connection).
After a quick examination where I could see that the other end of the
phono leads are sealed through the turntable into the arm I decided to
cut of the old plugs and connect to some new ones....Mistake!!! I
thought it would be like speaker wire (i.e. stranded or single wire)
but it looks more like coax with an inner wire surrounded by plastic
and then an outer wire shield!! I have no idea how to solder new
connectors on or even where to get new Phono connectors from!!! I
know it's a mistake of my own making but any help/advice would be
appreciated.

Thanks
Jamez

From the sound of things, you could easily make things much worse
trying to solder a new connector on. Take it to somebody with a bit of
experience. This need not be a dealer, just a friend who is accustomed
to electronics - he will have no problems finding you the right
connector and putting it on.

Maplin sell phono plugs, from 79 pence to £6.99 each.

Indeed - I'd go with:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...35876&doy=24m5

Well made, nice fit and easy to solder. I'd *guess* that the Rega's
inner wire connects to the inner core of the plug, outer to outer? Try
it - what's the worst that could happen?!

That depends on how many times he has to strip the cable before he gets it
right - and on how long the cable is...

Then he's got to have the balls to cut the other one and match 'em up!!

(Or his sound will be all lopsided!! ;-)

Thanks for the replies, I figured it was probably a good idea to let
someone else repair it!! There's a little "hobbyist" electronics store
in town I'll pop it in there and see what they can do...

Thanks
