Default Amplifier upgrade

Ok people, currently running with:

Arcam Black Box 50 DAC
Technics SU-VX600 amplifier
Mordaunt Short Avant 908 speakers

Chord Company Cobra II interconnect
Audio Innovations silver bi-wire speaker cable

The DAC is currently fed by a Technics SL-PG590 acting as CD transport
and Turtle Beach Audiotron networked audio player (MP3 and WAV
uncompressed - MP3 via the DAC sounds better than the Technics' line out!)

The amp is clearly the weak link in the chain, previously I had the CD
player running direct and Eltax Symphony 6 speakers. Upgraded the
speakers not long after getting the BB50, but now the amp really needs
to be upgraded to match.

At present I'm using a Kenwood SS-3300 surround processor with the
system when watching TV or DVD/video (I have a separate system for
DD5.1/DTS), it would be nice to have something that can do decent
surround as well as stereo in this system though.

Current contenders are Arcam AVR-250 or AVR-300 and get the matching
Mordaunt Short centre and dipole surrounds. I'm rather impressed with
Arcam, both the BB50 and after hearing a friend's FMJ system with Castle
speakers, but am open to other suggestions.

The Arcam is good sounding stuff and its price is right for you...you should
stay with it IMO.
