Default Marantz PM7200 or Denon PMA1055R

Hi

I am trying to buy wither of this amplifiers but cant decide.

My heart is with Marantz due to haveing 95 Watts per channel power
however doesnt have Loudness button like Denon.

On the otherside Denon has Loudness button but only have 65 per channel
power.

Any help would be much appreatiated.

Thanks

Efe

Go with the Marantz - you'll never use the Loudness button and the Denon
will *never* be loud enough for you, knowing the Marantz had more power.
(You will be trying to live with the 'wrong choice' forever after... ;-)

If you listen to music fairly loud, you don't need the loudness button.
All it does is boost the bass and treble a bit to compensate for the
ears' natural low-level response curve.

Hello Efe.

I would like to tell : you can chose on the basis of the 95 Watts
against 65 Watts, or the Loudness button/no Loudness button matter.

Unfortunately, things are not that simple. (Or perhaps it's better for
audio aficionados ?).

First the Watts : the 1/3 difference in power should be barely heard.
Even if the amplifiers were the same, with the same circuit, and just
some more VAs (VoltsxAmps) to feed one of them. And these are different
amplifiers, which complicates matters. I must tell you : these claims
about power, don't mean anything in terms of true musicality, fidelity,
quality, and as I told it, even perceived sound level. If it were 8 W
against 80, then, things could be different, but not as much as you
could suppose..
About the loudness button, you can be sure about two things : adding
filters is not a good thing for music (and loudness is an especially bad
kind of filter !). And secondly, if you need this to hear the bass and
treble from your system, then it doesn't work properly. (IMHO)
It should be far better to tune it.
So, the words are : hear your favorites, and some others if you can, on
your own system if you can. Then you can decide. But please, never
include or exclude an amplifier from your shortlist on the basis of
power, or measured performance, or (exotic ?) filters.
