If I were a rich man...

....what's the most expensive HiFi money can buy?

for a CD, Amp, Speakers, Turntable, Cables, mains filters, etc

Let's see how much money we can spend hypothetically speaking, for fun.

If I was as rich as, say, William Henry Gates III, I wouldn't bother
with music from hi-fi - I'd have the real thing instead.

Well if you just want to spend regardless of quality, I'd imagine the
original of these would fetch a fair bit...
http://www.tinfoil.com/tinfoil.htm

Surviving recordings to use on it are even more exotic, given they have a
normal lifespan of a few hours.
Unless you make your own, in which case the media is surprisingly resonable
;)

I also managed to find a fuss about...

"12 watt per channel, Ongaku tube amplifier, in which the tubes are obscure
and rare triode power tubes and the transformers are wound from silver wire
with tweezers, by hand"

.... I found one 2nd hand, $20,000 per monoblock. So _very_ quiet stereo bi-
amping for ~£130k.

Hmm, I wouldn't have described 211's as rare or obscure, hey ho, thats
marketing for you. Tweezers ?
